Hello Ladies!
I know that you are all here to get some information about menopause and menopause weight gain; but let me started with the definiton of menopause. According to the a popular definition :
"Menopause represents the end of menstruation. While technically it refers to the final period, it is not an abrupt event, but a gradual process. Menopause is not a disease that needs to be cured, but a natural life-stage transition.
Every woman, when she reaches the age where fertility ends, goes through menopause. The average age to experience menopause is 51.4 in United States, according to the North American Menopause Society, but each body responds to menopause at a different time.
After a brief explanation; I think We can start with the reasons of weight gain during menopause.
Decrease in Metabolic Rate with Age : Arguably the most important reason of why women do gain weight during menopause is the decrease in their metabolic rate with age. Recent studies show us that after the age of 30 metabolic rate decreases about one percent each and every year. This process is even quicker during menopause. This exactly means that your metabolism is working slower and burning less calories than before.
Bitter truth is; your metabolism working slower almost always means that you are gaining weight!
Stagnation and Lack of Exercise : The second common reason why women gain weight during menopause is stagnation. As getting older, people are tend to be more inactive physically and this is one of the reasons why they do gain weight. So, try to be mobile as much as you can, wake up early, do some exercise. 45 minutes of jogging in the early morning makes you "be fine" and "feel good." Never stop working!
According to the latest obeseness reports of WHO (World Health Organization) weight gain during menopause is very much about stagnancy.
In short; try to move as much as you can. Stop reading this article and go out jogging!
On second thought, you would be better just finish reading this article then go out jogging. Sounds better!
Decrease in Estrogen Hormones : Actually; that middle- aged spread starts before menopause and level of estrogen hormones decreases. In other words, weight gain is not a sign of menopause; it is much more about age. According to North American Menopause Society, an average women gains between 13 - 17 pounds of weight during the ages that are convering menopause.
Decrease in Progestogen : During menopause; while your level of progestogen decreases, your level of appetite increases; which triggers you to eat more, more and more.
So what happens? You know the saying; "Appetite comes with eating." In this case, We need to change it to " Weight gain comes with appetite." It is all hormonal; the changes in hormones during the process of menopause affects very much your body. life doesn't always shine!
Depression and Other Mental Illnesses : Even if it hasn't been based upon a scientific research; most of women think that menopause causes depression, feeling sad, unhappy and uncheerful.
And, as women are tend to be eating more during depression which lead to gain enormous amount of gain.
Yet, it is not even proved that whether depression triggers weight gain or weight gain triggers depression. Yet again, it is not a well proven theory but it is a theory nevertheless.
