Calcium Rich Plant Foods
You can consume calcium rich plant foods
into your diet. Dairy products aren’t the only food sources of calcium. There
are plenty of plant foods that contain a healthy amount of calcium, too. Here
are the top plant sources of calcium and some tips to help you get more of
them.
1-
Collard, turnip, beet and
dandelion greens. Start looking for low fat recipes that call for greens. You
might want to try southern style cookbooks as well.
2-
Frozen or cooked spinach. Add
spinach to soups, casseroles, lasagna and so on, whenever possible.
3-
Black eyed peas. In your
favorite recipes, substitute black eyed peas for other beans that are not as
rich as rich in calcium. Black eyed peas also make a great side fish, Mexican
and southern style entrees.
4-
Kale. Add kale to stir fry
recipes, casseroles and soups or eat it as a vegetable side fish.
5-
Baked beans. Baked beans make a
great side dish especially in winter.
6-
White, navy, great northern and
kidney beans. Add beans to casseroles, soups and green or pasta salads. Eat
bean salads more often. Look for low fat bean recipes in southwestern and
vegetarian cookbooks.
7-
Spinach leaves, fresh. Make
green salads with all of some spinach leaves.
8-
Broccoli. Add broccoli to hot
and cold pasta dishes, soups, casseroles and stir fry recipes. Broccoli also
makes a great side dish for lunch or dinner.
