Rules for Exercise

Rules for Exercise

Regardless of your specific approach to a well conditioned body, the same basic rules apply:

-          Get a Full Medical Checkup : If you have any medical problems, or are over the age of 40, please consult your doctor before beginning the some exact exercise programs. Almost everyone can custom- tailor my approach to their own fitness level, but it is smart to make sure you have no special restrictions.
-          Warm up Properly : The best approach is to begin with five minutes of gentle movement, followed by five minutes of gentle stretching, to increase the flow of blood through your body and to start your muscle working. Gentle movement might mean using exercise equipment on the lowest settings, walking slowly or doing a light dance routine. When you have warmed up your muscles sufficiently, do some of the stretching exercises.
-          Don’t Push too Hard : If you become dizzy or short of breath, stop what you are doing and reduce the intensity of your exercise. Exercise should be rigorous, not painful. Save the more strenuous activities, such as jogging or weight lifting.

-          Learn the Rules : Exercising properly, especially when you are using weights or machines, is important to avoid injury and to get maximum benefit from your workout. You may want to work with an experienced friend or ask a professional trainer to evaluate your technique. It may also help to exercise in front of a mirror.
