The Facts about Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco

Drugs

-          There are many kinds of drugs. They include medicines like OTC and prescription drugs, legal drugs such as nicotine and alcohol and illegal drugs such as marijuana, LSD and cocaine.
-          A dose of a drug causes main and side effects. Some drugs cause dependence and addiction.
-          Drug use can lead to misuse, abuse and addiction.
-          In order to make choices about drugs, it is helpful to know the facts about drugs and ways to deal with peer pressure. Choosing alternative activities to drugs provides health and safety.


Alcohol and Tobacco

-          Alcohol depresses the nervous system. It slows down brain, lung and heart activities.
-          Alcohol abuse is related to cirrhosis of the liver and other diseases. Alcohol also is involved in a high percentage of accidents.
-          Tobacco contains the addictive drug nicotine, tars, carbon monoxide and many other chemicals.
-          Smoking tobacco stimulates the heart and brain cells and causes a buildup of tar and cancer agents in the lungs.
-          Emphysema and lung cancer often result from years of smoking tobacco.
