The food photography is a fun but yet a difficult job to master. Because, it requires a lot of knowledge about the food styling and using the right props, to make the food appealing and appetizing. Lighting Is Top Priority 

Like in any other photography, lighting has a significant impact in food photography too. Now, important thing to remember is that front light makes the food look flat and unappetizing.  Here is tip to make your food look appealing and appetizing use the backlight. The back light will show the texture and allow showing up the steam coming out in photograph. When light is coming from behind it will make the smoke/steam more prominent. Get The Fresh Ingredients/Produce

The fresh ingredients have a nice glow and shine in their skin and vibrant colors as well. These colors and nice skin tone will add the elements of brightness and liveliness into the plate and photograph. The old produce has wrinkle skin, marked and damage which doesn’t look very appealing. So, if you don’t have fresh ingredients, then turn the ingredients in the way that it doesn’t show the bad side. Use Raw Ingredients As Props

Raw ingredients are perfect props because; it will help you add the colors and element of rustiness in the shot. The chopping board with the beautiful patterned bowl and some raw ingredients add the barn like rustic feel in the photograph.

Simplicity Is What You Need

If there is too much food on plate, it will look messy and distracting. And it will lose its charm and overall appeal of plate. So, to make it more appealing and appetizing take out the things you don’t need. Keep it simple and pair down the ingredients in one plate: to have the meaningfulness in the plate. Show Different Cooking Stages

Instead of having one final shot of the cooked platter, you should include the various stages of cooking. These stages include the cooping, putting ingredients into pot and other processes to help the people understand the final product of cooking. You can also show the before and after shot of the cooking as well. Although with step by step images, sometimes the cooking images are better than showing the final product.

Add A Human Component

Humans are one to cook the food so including human element will add the natural touch in the food photography. You can include a hand stirring the pot, hand putting ingredients on plate or holding a plate.

Shot With Clean Plates

The final tip is to have clean plates to shot with. Because, the clean plates will helps the food to shine and become the focus of image. Not only plates, but everything in the image should be absolutely clean and flawless. The reason is that these things become noticeable in close up shots.
