Hypertension in USA

Hypertension in USA

Blood pressure is related to heart muscle activity and to the remaining parts of the cardiovascular system, that is, the blood vessels. Millions of people especially adults have hypertensions and it’s a common illness all in all. The number of people who have hypertension is  significant because a positive relationship exists between SBP and risk for cardiovascular disease. Indeed, hypertension is a significant risk factor for stroke, myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure. Together, these diseases account for more than %50 percent of the disease in many countries. Other facts, as listed next, should also be kept in mind when considering hypertension. These were reported in USA, one of the most common health research center and here comes the important results of that research.

-          The prevalence of hypertension increases with the age. The risk generally increases between ages 55 and 65.
-          Hypertension is about twice as prevalent among African Americans and Mexicans.
-          Hypertension is negatively related to social status.
-          Prevalence of hypertension increases markedly in women, generally following menopause.
-          The percentage of individuals with hypertension who are receiving treatment for is about 55%
-          Hypertension is extremely common in older Americans, with a prevalence of 60% for non Hispanic White Americans, 71% for non- Hispanic White Americans.
-          Nearly three fourths of adult Americans with hypertension are not controlling their blood pressure to below 140 / 90 mm Hg.
