Tips for Reducing Dietary Fat

Many researchers are convinced that the average diet contains too much fat for good health. Moreover, fat is much higher in calories by weight than other nutrients. There is a fat and calorie table which is very common and you can see everywhere:
-          1 gram of fat : 9 calories
-          1 gram of carbohydrates : 4 calories
-          1 gram of protein : 4 calories

What does that mean to you? It means you can eat a much higher volume of food if it is low in fat. You can put a tablespoon of butter on your bread or you can eat 3 ounces of shrimp. You can have a cup of cooked pasta or seven deep fried tortilla chips. The calorie counts are the same. When you eat a low fat diet, you can actually eat more in volume and weigh less. And there is a huge fringe benefit, you greatly reduce your risk of coronary artery disease and other medical problems associated with fatty foods.

The food label tells you how many grams of fat are contained in an average serving and what percentage of total calories are derived from fat.
